Farmer Maggot is a minor character in The Lord of the Rings series

It is known for a fact that Farmer Maggot is very protective of his crops, and hates when someone tries to steal them. He was known to chase them off, most notably Merry and Pippin. However, they had dragged Frodo and Sam into their mess.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring[]
One day in his house, Farmer Maggot is scared out of his wits when mysterious riders clad in black. As his dogs bark at the strangers, the leader of the black riders demands them with two words, "Shire" and "Baggins". Terrified by the creatures, he tells them that the Baggins live in Hobbiton before both Farmer Maggot and the dog retreats into his smial.
It is later revealed in the film that his crops were being stolen by Pippin Took and Merry Brandybuck and begins chasing the two hobbits, along with Frodo Baggins and Sam Gamgee.
